Roosevelt Island Adventure

We went on an adventerous Sunday afternoon outing to Roosevelt Island.
We all had a wonderful time and felt refreshed afterwards...who knew we would see such diverse wildlife in this metropolitan area right across from Georgetown?
We were on the trail around the island but 5 minutes and saw this garter snake.
There were lots of Daddy Long Legs, which both children enjoyed trying to capture!
And deer!
Not the best lighting, but we saw them!
And, of course, who could forget the rock climbing children?
This was just after they had been rock throwing children, Oscar telling Eleanor NOT to hit the kayakers in the Potomac!
Look Mom, grass growing on a rock!?!
And a tree growing around a rock!
Kristian and I
Miss mischevious...having just broken off a piece of bearbread that I had asked her not to.
The island has a boardwalk on the swampy side.
Oscar found a new friend, whom he called "Spikey" and was putting him through the courses of a 3-ring circus, having him crawl from one rock to the next only to put the last rock in front of the first.
Ah, to be a giant in your own world.
Our little man running circles below this "big man" statue of President Roosevelt.
The middle of the island had a neat memorial with this statue and several of his famous lines.
Watch out for splinters! We warned them and they were both lucky, phew!
Walking the bridge back to reality, er, the parking lot.
